I only started on the sixth day, so I'm behind. However, I'm chowing down fast on the word count, and I got up past 10k on the ninth, so I'm not doing so terribly. Yesterday I wrote over 4k, and I'm going for the same goal today, so if I hit it, I should be pretty much caught up. After I am caught up, I'm still planning to write 3k or so a day, but I won't be in quite as much of a rush as I am right now.
Luckily, I chose to write one of the prequels to "The Nightmare Complex" and I know the setting and most of the characters pretty well. Thankfully, for some reason, whenever I get a plot into my head, I can write it out, except for the very, very rare occasion, when I decide to scrap it for some reason.
My plot's progressing quite smoothly at this point, and I'm doubting the need for any extensive edits. How're your guys' going?

Wow you guys! That's some plot you must have xD And to write over 1k a day! How do you manage school and other stuff with that? Anyway, good luck guys! Maybe I'll try it out next Dec hols after I get my major exams over (:
Btw, can I ask you guys a question? When you have a plot - or a rough idea, how exactly do you get it from your head to actual words? Do you plan out every chapter or only the main details and add stuff along the way?

I am doing NaNoWriMo....hehe lol, its my second year but I didnt make it with exams on...
And in answer to your questions Saphira, I dont. Lol. At the moment, all my free time I write. My life is school (try and finish early so I can write), hockey, work and write some more. Oh and chores, homework and eating somewhere in the middle XD. Im currently on 22,000 words XD just over last time I checked..
The way I write is just write. Instead of planning everything out, as that takes time, I normally have a rough idea in my head and just go from there. My biggest problem is reading over things, wanting to edit and when I finally reach the end of it all, i've run out of writing time and have to go do something else.
But thats just me XD
Ohh I almost forgot to say that I spoke to my english teacher, he's letting me do it for extra credit! He told the rest of the class and now about 3 other people are trying it XD lol.

Extra credit? What's that? >.<
Anyway, it's so cool the way you're able to balance your time and write as well! I should learn how to do it better lol. Anyway, I tried writing a novel, of currently am, but halfway through, I realised that I'm not sure where it's going now. That's why I wondered if it's more effective to plan chapters or something xD
Thanks Kanny(:

I have extensively planned my own NaNoWriMo. And look at me, 10 days in and sitting on over 70,000 words

*Grins* I never plan my chapters, except for PoVs. I have parts of the plot planned, as in the briefest and roughest vague idea possible, then I write what I feel like writing, when I feel like writing it. So far, that plan has gotten me a book (and now close to two, by the end of the month, three) as well as five short stories, and about fifty poems.
The daily word goal... That's different; I get that because I usually write around 2k at a go anyways. When working on the SFF Adventure, I wrote each chapter in a day, and for The Nightmare Complex I'll write up to three chapters (each at around 1.5k) a day when I feel like it. So I already have some idea of how to get down to writing that much...
