Name: American Saddlebred Species: Horse Colours: All Colors Height: 15-16hh Basic History: Settlers in America crossed Thoroughbreds and Narragansett Pacers together in the 18th century. This early breed was used in the Revolutionary War. It was known as the Kentucky Saddler in the 1800's. Its comfortable gaits were desirable among farmers on the plantations. They soon developed into a fancy horse used for harness, races, and farm work. Morgan and Thoroughbred blood was added in the 1830's, and that finally created the modern American Saddlebred. Habitat: The American Saddlebred is extremely surefooted, and it would easily be able to live in a rocky climate such as a coastline or mountain. Quick Facts: Many war leaders in early American history, such as Ulysses S. Grant, rode American Saddlebreds in battle. American Saddlebreds are gentle and friendly in nature.
