Celeste
The young mare looked at Blade, her eyes shining with a multitude of emotions, hesitant, yet inexplicably drawn to this hellion with such a handsome appearance and gentle voice. Celeste lowered her lashes, swishing her flaxen tail, smooth as corn silk, as the soft breeze ruffled her slightly windswept mane.
The thudding of large hooves on grass startled her, and Celeste jerked her head up, pinning her harks warily to her skull as she turned her boa to face the newcomer. A large stag greeted her eyes, his coat like velvet and the colour of the darkest of nights. He spoke then, and his voice too, held all the warmth and gentleness of summer. The chestnut bowed her head, ears flicking in greeting as velvet kissers parted, words, lilting and melodious spilling out of her maw.
“Greetings…” She nodded, hazel orbs locking onto the new stallion’s for an instant, before darting to Blade, then settled for somewhere in between. “I’m Celeste,” She introduced herself, gracing him with a small, swift smile that lightened her delicate features. Blade spoke once again, continuing their line of conversation, and Celeste swivelled her head to look at him with interest.
“I do not doubt that,” She said softly, giving a small chuckle. “Even from afar, they manage to capture my attention.” The hellion stallion then went on to elaborate, ending with an indirect way of telling her that she would be welcome. The young fae looked at him, eyes wide with surprise –and something akin to delight, before she managed to quash that emotion out of her thoughts.
She looked curiously at the new stallion as he started describing his homeland, obviously not to be outdone by Blade. If she were to admit this to herself, she would have said that she was flattered at gaining the attentions of two bold and handsome stallions so soon after arriving in this land. His ending statement was a slight shock to her, as she managed to stammer out a hesitant “thank you”.
She stepped back, slightly flustered, as Blade’s deep baritone voice slid into her auds once more. “I…” She trailed off, having no adequate reply to that statement. When the hellion stallion spoke again, she looked at him in puzzlement. His words rang with the essence of the truth, sincere and genuine, so why did she have the feeling that something wasn’t quite right here?
His next words baffled her, and she bit her lip. She knew it was folly, a ‘normal’ mare falling for a hellion-breed stallion, so what was she doing? What was she feeling? He had arrived, swooped down in front of her and stolen her attention, her curiosity. Leaving her intrigued, fascinated. Uncertainly, she looked between the two stallions, both facing her.
She knew she had to make a choice, before it was made for her. But who should she choose? She looked closely at both, but sensing nothing, no dark intent so far. Or perhaps it was simply that her instincts weren’t that strong in this area. ‘Naive’, she had often been called. ‘Innocent’ and ‘trusting’ were also one of the many words commonly used to describe her.
“I…” She began, fervently wishing that the ground would just open and swallow her whole. She hated being put in the spot, in the center of people’s attention like so.
She decided to stall for time.
“I’m not sure…” She trailed off, glancing between the two once more. But she did want to go with him. She wanted to see everything he had described, and could not deny that she was indeed drawn to him.
Looking apologetically at the other, she turned to Blade. “I shall come, but I cannot promise that I will stay.”
