Heart of Gold
I nodded slightly, seeing the fear in her eyes, having a feeling I knew what it was about, though different from what I had gone through. "I was born somewhere within the deserts beyond the sea, as well as an ocean. My mother died when I was born, and I was taken in by a mare who had lost her own foal. She was a desert horse, and I was brought up with other such horses, ones who could run across the sands as if it were solid ground, who could travel across snow as if it wasn't even there. I was eventually named Heart of Gold, both because of my coat and also because I had a tendency to gain friends quickly." I stopped, thinking. There wasn't much more to say, but I added in a couple more things anyways. "I learned to fight when I was older, but I wasn't allowed to participate in the raids. Later I found out that it was because I'm hellion."
I shrugged a bit then stopped, flicking away a fly with a blast of heat, not caring to kill it. It was only a slight annoyance after all. Nothing major...

The hellion fae sighed anxiously, looking at him, knowing she would have to speak. Soon, she would speak, when she could. This is all I've ever known! How could I feel like this? she screamed in her mind. It was true she had killed, but those were horses that had kidnapped her. Still it is significant enough, right?! she questioned in her mind.
"Fine, I'll tell you," she said, defeat in her tones. "I was born a desert horse a lived there. I was named meant to someday be an evil mare, hence my name. It simply means evil in an ancient African language," she said, loosening up. "Even though there are things I hide from other hellions, I still seek power. That was one of the main problems I had with him...," she hissed, looking over at Blade.
"They captured me....the good ones. They died in a second when I was a yearling; I killed them all. Just now as I met you, I noticed," she said, speaking of her personality. No, she was not meant to be an evil queen...nor an evil broodmare for that matter. Why? Why has fate done this to me. I should be like them she thought, looking back to think of Corus, Blade, and Exile. I regret killing them she thought, her orbs filled with saddness.

Heart of Gold
I smiled, knowing something of what she must be feeling. "It was opposite with me. Normal, considered normal for so long then finding out more about hellions and wondering whether or not I was evil." I shook my head a bit, like it was nothing. It hadn't been then, not to me. I had wondered if I should leave the desert herd and seek my own kind to learn to be evil. "Eventually my brother, Niagra told me that he'd pound me to a bloody pulp if I didn't get over the idea of being evil and help him out with some of the other colts and fillies in the herd."
I laughed, remembering Niagra, my brother in all but blood, as he had said that. He had seemed to tower over me, and I distinctly remember staring at his hooves, which, like all desert horses, were abnormally large. "He probably would've too. The desert isn't a place where one of the herd can just go off and do whatever they want without getting hurt. Don't worry so much is my advice, Mabaya. You can change who you are, but you'd better make sure that you want to before you do it. Otherwise you'll regret it."

It wasn't that she didn't want to change; she did. It felt like betrayal to her bringing up and her life. If anyone from her family ever did find out, she'd die. They were happy in their little desert home though; they would not follow the daughter that they probably thought was dead. They would be surprised that she lived through the stallion that stole her. Mabaya was a hostage because she was an evil princess. That was the past. This was now.
"I think I do," she said simply, her voice quavering as she spoke. "I was so sure that I was evil....until you came here. Then, I saw that you and I have more in common than I thought upon first glance," she said softly, hoping this was the right way for her. It had to be because it was the only one that felt right now. Yesterday, she would have scoffed at the idea, but she had seen it in herself today. A change would be the only way for happiness.
Mabaya now knew why she had been so sour and unhappy. Her expectations for her life were different than what had been designed for her. "I'll try," she said genuinely, knowing that she would succeed now that she was trying. "Thank you," she whispered. Gold would know why she was thanking him; for helping Mabaya find herself.

Heart of Gold
I nodded, smiling a bit, then stepped forward, nuzzling her. "You're always welcome. And one other thing, that was said to me by my foster sister. 'The only time you'll ever lose is if you stop trying,' I happened to beat her in one of our fights later on because of that advice." I said to her, laughing a bit as an image of the look on my sister's face came to mind.
"Would you like to come to the Gemdas with me then, Mabaya?"

Mabaya smiled at his advice, coming closer to him, nuzzling his shoulder. Never had she felt anything so...spectacular, so beautiful. Those were the only words she could use to describe what made her feel light and airy around Gold. Is it love? she asked herself, her orbs filled with wonder and delight. I'd never have guessed that it felt so amazing! she exclaimed, knowing already what her answer would be.
The fae wondered if there were any others in the herd with him or if he'd decided who would be the queen of that herd. Mabaya was sure there was a king in the land, as well as other mares too. It would be nice to meet them since she was trying to be kinder. No, she would not fight with them. The storm hued hellion hesitated on answering but still did. "Yes," she said softly. "Yes, I will go with you," she said, a soft smile pursing her maw.

Heart of Gold
I smiled at her, then shook my head a bit, flames of light gold causing sparks and small flames to dance around us both. "Well, that's a relief. I'd have hated to leave you here all alone! It's terribly boring having to wait around. Believe me, I've had to do it." I said, laughing some. "Now then, if you'll step this way my lady, I'll show you the Gemdas!" I knew I was slightly giddy, but that happened to the best of us at times, so I wasn't particularly self-conscience about it. It had been about two years since I had the company of any mare who ran with me after all, and never one like me.
I began trotting towards home, looking back at her with a quick smile and a nod of my flaming head.

Mabaya gladly trotted after Gold, happily leaving Blade to find other pure hellions that he could torture. The fae took her mind off of such things and loped beside her stallion. Why did she ever get it in her mind that a stallion with power was best? In a way, she thought it still was. Mabaya believed that she was getting the best of both worlds though. Gold was everything she had wished for: strong, powerful, and loving. Although loving wasn't on her list of expectations before, it was the most important now.
The storm hellion let the flames upon her boa and whipcord flicker barely as she fell into a steady rhythm with him. Mabaya nuzzled his neck as she ran beside him, lovestruck for the first time. She wanted to see the Gemdas. Hopefully, they would be as good as the desert was.
