Name: Alter Real Species: Horse Colours: Most of the time Bay or Black, but there are rare exceptions Height: 15.1-16.1hh Basic History: The Alter Real came from Lusitanos and was mostly based on Spanish mares. These mares were bought by Joao V of Portugal bought from Spain to produce two royal studs. This was started in 1749 to provide for all equestrian activities in the royal riding school. The towns of the two studs were Alter de Chao and Vila de Portel. This was where the Alter Real got its name. Up to 300 Spanish mares were possibly imported from Spain to start the breeding program. They were bred to meet the standards of high level dressage. Habitat: They are refined and have strong feet, but they are not built for rocky climate. They are bred specifically for the dressage arena, but they would thrive in a forest, plains, or a coastline. Quick Facts: The Alter Real is very intelligent and is quick to learn.
