CHAPTER 2 - Travelling
When I came back from being unconscious, I noticed a nebulous feeling in my mind and I felt very tired. Also the fact that I was moving caught my attention, weak as that was right now. Slowly the fact that again I was on a horses back registered in my mind, but I was confused by that. Also there was not much light in the sky, I could see that too.
Then the horse seemed to slow down and stop. It was then that I realized just who was with me as my memories flooded my mind. Oh no, not Durza, I thought horrified. Then I thought sadly, How will I ever tell Faolin's parents what happened to their son? A third thought registered in my mind. Was the dragon egg in safe hands?
Then Durza lifted me from the horse and dropped me on the ground. "Wake up, elf," he spat.
Blearily I opened my eyes. Time to taunt him again, I thought, thinking quickly.
My mind was filled with the loss of Faolin, and I could feel Durza trying to intrude on my mind, to gain information. Stubbornly I fought back, pushing him away, not letting him in.
"Let me in, you insolent elf," Durza hissed. "You can't block me forever."
"Poor Durza, I don't think you comprehend that I have things in my mind that you'll in no way gain knowledge of," I said scornfully, focusing my cold gaze on him.
That seemed to anger him and he kicked at me. I only just managed to roll out of the way. "If I were you, insolent elf, I would not mock me too much or you might just die," Durza threatened me.
Before I could get another word out, and I had a crafty response, he said, "Slytha." Sleep.
Again I fell into darkness, without any indication except the word he'd used on me.
This time I would only wake up when he wanted me to, he'd used my own native tongue on me. Sometimes I really hate that humans and Shades know our Ancient Language, Durza would love to be able to get me where ever we were going without any fuss from me.
A long time passed by before I was next awoken. Though I was asleep in an unnatural way, the rest was welcomed, though I had no dreams. I could feel all my strength returning to me, a mistake on Durza's part.
As I dozed on, in this forced sleep, my mind raced to figure out a possible way to get away. While I was out of it, I was sure he would have disarmed me, so my sword and bow were of no help to me now. Gradually as my strength increased I started to fight the spell he'd placed on me, I had had enough sleep.
Again we stopped, and I found myself on the ground, yet again. "Going to tell me where you sent the egg?" the Shade asked, in a low voice.
As I opened my eyes I found that we were not out on the open plains again, but instead we were in a room of some sort. As my eyes took in the darkness, gaining more sight than he'd have expected, I replied, "Never!"
As I spoke a ray of sunshine touched my face. That warm bright ray of sunlight seemed to energize me though I knew not how it did.
"Come now, if you tell me, I shall let you go," Durza's voice replied silkily.
"Condemn the dragon egg to Galbatorix again? You must believe I'm unintelligent. I would never do that," I replied, still mocking him.
I knew that being so disrespectful was not a good thing, but I knew that I had to make him want to think that he could get the information out of me. again he was annoyed and muttered, "Slytha," to shut me up again.
