They were many miles away from the safety of weak minded fools of the river land. Now, they were in the wilderness of the hot savanna, where the light grasses grew high. Lions slept in the shade while gazelles frolicked in the safety of the grasses. Their young laid low during the night but sought refuge in the day when the lions were in their slumbers. It was the perfect time for the wolves to hunt them down and tear them apart - limb by limb. Mounts struck the sky in the distance, making them look purple with the cirrus clouds swirling around the tips of them. Kilimanjaro was one of the hugest mountains in all the lands, and they had access to it. The scenery was splendorous, yet the leaders that lurked in the shadows were worse than any nightmare.
Each step had become even more of a burden, trying to fake ailment. The odd ebony, ivory, and rich brown hues mixed together with the stains of blood upon her pelt. Little did the other know, those stains came from the pelt of another, not from her. The well muscled pillars, moved from different angles, making each stride awkward. Charades like this one would be over soon enough when the king came to take the flighty ivory one captive. Suddenly hard, cold eyes looked straight forward contemplating how wonderful it would be to feel the soft soil under her claws again. Crepusculum wished to stand upon the highest rock in the land and bay threats to the moon, daring any intruders to set foot in her land.
Crepusculum let her gaze soften unusually as she looked over to the female who had traveled through many lands, just for the thought of helping her. Well, now she had found what she was looking for - a home. Was there any price for the deception she had handed out to the innocent? There couldn't be. The whole world was meant to serve the powerful, and this fae was quite powerful. Unlike in the herds of horses, all wolves had something that they could do to benefit the king and queen other than providing pups. Aurora would be quite good at that too, but her nimbleness would make her an excellent spy. Crep had noticed that as soon as she saw her fight. She was sure that Aurora would learn to love the hunt.
The queen's mood changed as she neared the center of her land, getting more anxious with each stride. Still, limping she came to a halt in the middle, her golden eyes piercing through the distance between her and her king. "Draighean," she hissed, beckoning for him to come and meet the prize. He would be pleased, she was sure. This one, unlike Nula, was young and beautiful. She was fast and quite intelligent, even though she was very gullible. Things such as naivety could be cured over time and concentrated efforts. They had come too far to turn back now, and there was no safe place for Aurora to hide.

A U R O R A As the pair of she-wolves travelled towards Africa, Crep’s home, Aurora saw the surroundings around them change. From the tree-filled land of the River where she had met her companion, she had seen the coast, valleys, mountains, glades, deserts and forests. Many sights, she had not seen before and longed to take a closer look, to dwell in the shades of the sky-tall mountains, so tall that they seemed to be scraping the sky, the roof of the world. Now, they had come to a whole new world that the milky wolf had never seen, only heard about in the travelling tales of wanderers in their ice-filled land. The yellow grasses weaved in the hot, dry breeze, some as tall as her shoulder, so even taller than she was. Raising her head and sniffing curiously, she caught a whiff of many different kinds of animals – lions, she recognised by their glorious manes and golden bodies. The gazelles, too, she knew from stories she had heard of their fleet-footedness and their prongs. Her weary paws had forgotten their tiredness in an instant, as she stared round the land in awe, hardly paying attention to where they were going, following Crep closely as they headed further into the lands.
Occasionally, Aurora ripped her eyes from the splendour around her, casting quick glances to the she-wolf trotting awkwardly by her side, making sure she was all right. The moon-hued wolf noticed how in every step, she began to move slightly faster, as though she was eager to find her pack once more, and only her injuries kept her from dashing full speed into the savannah. Not that Aurora could blame her, she thought, focusing her gaze back on her surroundings, letting a wistful smile part her jaws. She would, too, if she were returning to her pack in the land of ice and snow. It was a harsh life, but it was good, made bearable by the warmth and companionship of her adopted pack. Her shoulder was slightly stiff, the wound that the lynx had made with its dagger-claw had crusted over during her journey, leaving streaks of crimson down her ivory shoulder and leg.
So absorbed was she, that the white wolf missed the glance that her ‘friend’ had thrown at her. The golden collar which matched the hue of her eyes glittered like diamonds, and the crystals on her collar glittered like, well… Jewels. Flecks of light were thrown about the grasses, lost in the abundant pooling of sunlight here. The night had come and gone, and finally, they had reached their destination. Her limbs felt like lead, and her body ached with weariness, for she had not gotten rest since she had fought of the lynx while on their way here. Shaking her cultured dome, the young fae followed the tri-coloured wolf into the center of the land, picking up her paces to keep up with her. Finally, they stopped, and Aurora sat on the grassy ground, eyes shadowed slightly with weariness, but still bright with curiosity. Her dome twisted, and her tongue lolled out, relaxed.
Uneasiness pricked at her pelt, but she shook it away. Though it really wasn’t, Aurora somehow felt like she was trespassing on Crep’s territory. Even Crep had seemed to change, suddenly growing bigger, more regal. Looking at her, she said, “After your mate or pack-member finds you, I’ll go… You should be all right now.”

He had known that they were coming. From a distance, Draighean had smelled the pungent odor of canine blood and smirked to himself. Crepusculum must have been up to some very devious tricks this past evening. His large black and white form approached them slowly, taking in the appearance of the curious creamy hued female that also held a bit of blood on her coat. The king would most definitely get the details of this deceit later on but for right now, he knew he would have to play along for the moment.
His maroon eyes rested on Crep and he quickened his pace, feigning a look of great concern on his large face. "What has happened?" he asked, trying to make his voice as caring and friendly as possible. Gently, he touched his nose to hers, in an unusual display of affection, even for faking, and stepped back to take in her dramatically bloody and matted form. After a moment of silently appraising her act, he looked to Aurora. "Did you help her? How can I ever repay you?" a small smile played on his lips as he looked at her, friendliness dancing in his eyes. If only she knew he was about to repay her with the worst reward yet.

Crepusculum saw her king observe them slowly, as if he was watching to see what he would do. Briefly, she flashed him a smile, as if to show him that it was a game of deceit. The queen panted and whimpered softly, a look of pain and suffering crossing her large golden eyes. Trickery was apparent in this capturing - she had brought the fae through nearly twenty lands, and it was much too late to turn back now. Never would she trust her 'friend' again nor any other stranger that came up to her and asked for help in the future. Instead, she would learn to respect them both, like Dakota had. Someday, she'd be back, but for the moment, she was away on business and there needed to be someone to take her place.
"I was attacked on the way to speak to our friend, Modet. They tore me to shreds and tried to capture me as their own. Luckily, I was fast enough to flee from them but hurt too badly to make it back on my own," she said softly and dramatically, looking thankfully to Aurora. Draighean obviously knew that the blood she carried was not her own, but it was from her most recent fight. Killers always had the scent of dead bodies against them, always had the smell of others on them. Cruelly, she had murdered a wolf, and it had been quite fun. The act was still on though.
Whimpering, her eyes got big and wide, pretending to blink from keeping tears from coming. Instead, she forced them to come, making a large trickle of salty water run down her cheek and hit the dust. "She saved my life. We must let her rest here for at least tonight while her wounds heal," she said softly, nudging the ivory fae gently. "I've n-never had anyone help me so much," she said, begging for her to stay in more ways than one. They needed more workers, and she wondered if he thought Aurora was worthy. She was quite fast, strong, and skilled for her size. She could be a great help.

A U R O R A Turning her head, the cream-furred wolf pricked her ears as a rather large male wolf emerged from the surrounding grasses, stalking over to them. From his bearing and confident air, Aurora could safely say that he should be alpha wolf here. Turning to Crep in surprise, she looked between the two warily. It seemed that he travelling companion was a queen of this land. No wonder she had been in a hurry to get back. The she-wolf stayed silent, as the hot breeze fingered her silken fur, whipping through the tall grasses as they dipped and swayed.
The milky wolf looked between the two, watching their display of affection with a slightly puzzled look in her eyes, though she kept herself calm, making herself listen to Crep’s story. She could not help but feel that there was something missing here… A missing piece to the puzzle that held an important key, an important wealth of information. On the surface, all seemed well, and it looked like what it was – two lovers desperately happy and relieved to be reunited. If she looked deeper… There seemed to be a darker undercurrent to their actions, a subtle tension between the two. Aurora slid her eyelids over her golden orbs, shaking her head slightly. The lack of sleep must have gotten to her. She had never been one to jump so quickly to conclusions.
Reopening her eyes, she listened just as the male wolf spoke directly to her. Meeting his gaze with smiling golden eyes, she shook her head, about to reply when Crep’s answer cut her off. Turning to the tri-coloured wolf, she stared as a tear slipped down the fae’s cheek as a soft, wet nose nudged her gently. Wagging her tail slightly, she touched her nose to her shoulder, looking at them both as she directed her words to the two wolves.
“There is really no need,” she insisted, flicking her ears. “It was a pleasure to help… I don’t want to impose. There will be plenty of time to rest later on.” Standing, she barely rustled the grass beneath her small paws as she took a step forward, dipping her head to them both. “I should be on my way now.”
